AFTER CARE

Congratulations on your new tattoo! The easy part is over now (yes, we're not kidding.) After you've walked out of the studio with your incredible new tattoo, the responsibility now rests with you to ensure that the new tattoo is safe to heal and will continue to look amazing for years to come .

Grooming can seem overwhelming, so we've put together our daily guide for you to follow.

DAY 1 -  freshly tattooed

For the first three days, your tattoo is effectively an open wound and must be treated as such to prevent infection, which you should avoid at all costs.

  • 3-4 hours after your tattoo session, carefully remove the foil that your artist applied. Your new tattoo needs to breathe. Then wax the area with warm water and the Baby Care Washlotion . Gently dab the tattoo to dry.

  • Occasionally your artist will recommend that you put on a new slide after cleaning; if you cannot avoid being in a dirty environment.

  • Tattoo ink can soil bedding and clothing! Please note this. We recommend using clean sheets that you don't mind getting dirty.

DAY 2 -  keep it clean

Keep the tattoo clean and only use your hands to wash your healing tattoo and follow the instructions below.

  • Keep the tattoo clean and dry. Never immerse in water.

  • Wash the tattoo very lightly with Baby Care Washlotion .

  • Never use hot water to clean your tattoo. Only use cold or lukewarm water.

Until your tattoo has healed you must avoid baths, saunas, swimming pools, the ocean and other bodies of water. It would be best not to expose the area to direct sunlight and to touch the area as little as possible.

DAY 3 -  wash and cream

Now you can start the moistening process. Your hands must be clean before washing or applying lotion to your tattoo.

  • Every time you clean the tattoo, apply a thin layer of BABY CARE Aftercream .

  • Don't use excessive amounts and avoid putting too thick a layer of the cream on your skin.

Every skin is different; some heal faster than others. If your skin dries out quickly, you can apply the  BABY CARE aftercream more often. 2-3 times a day is average and again before bed.

Day 4-15 -  Rinse and repeat

Keep the same routine as on Day 3, washing gently and applying the cream. Larger tattoos may require an additional week or two of follow-up care. Your tattoo is essentially an open wound until it is fully scabbed and peeled. Until then, germs and bacteria can penetrate. Do your best to follow this guide and keep the area clean  and away from dirty environments.

Your tattoo can cause swelling, itching, peeling, and some fluid leakage. These are common responses to your body's natural response to injury. Do not scratch the tattoo as this can damage the design and lead to possible infection. Leaking fluid (blood, clear plasma, lymph, or ink) is a sign that your body is repairing the wound. Gently blot the liquid with a clean paper towel .

Eventually, you may get the "tattoo flu" (another common reaction) and feel unwell for a few days. You can relieve the pain with over-the-counter pain relievers and rest.

And remember, a few weeks of careful aftercare is worth a lifetime piece of art.
